Vermiculite is a hydrous, silicate mineral that expands greatly when heated. Exfoliation occurs when the mineral is heated sufficiently, and the effect is routinely produced in commercial furnaces. METHOD OF APPLICATION Vermiculite is mainly used for making soil-less hydroponic medium for plant growth. For this take 1 part Vermiculite, 1 part Perlite, and 3 parts Coirpith compost and mix together. Vermiculite can also be added to soil to increase the aeration and water holding capacity of the soil.
