There is a game of hide and seek going on between cyber criminals and banks. A person neither received any OTP nor did he click on any link nor did he receive any such message. He only received a black call and Rs 48 lakhs were withdrawn from his bank account. This shocking case of cyber fraud is from Delhi where Rs 48 lakh 63 thousand were withdrawn from the account of Yogesh Yadav, director of a security service, without asking for OTP.

This is about 11th November when Yogesh first received some black messages and after some time the fraudsters started calling him. When Yogesh picked up the phone, there was no voice from the other side. After some time, Yogesh checked his mobile phone to see the message and found out that money was deducted from his account. Till now it is said that if you do not tell OTP to anyone, then bank fraud cannot happen with you

But now cyber criminals have found a way around this too and this is the first case of bank fraud without OTP in Delhi. How this fraud was done here and at this time I have the victim Yogesh's letter to him. There is a copy of the complaint which he has given to the police. This is the copy in which he has given all the information to the police and in this he has said how the money has been withdrawn from his account, that is you have to know who made the transactions and these transactions have been done five times and in this he has written that through this RTGS.

About 12 lakh RTGS has been done in the account of Santu Bhowmik i.e. fund transfer has been done in which a big point is that this fraud has been done through RTGS i.e. real time transfer and more than 48 lakhs have been withdrawn in four times, the first transaction is of 12 lakhs and it has gone to the bank account of a person named Santu Bhowmik.

The second transaction is also of 12 lakhs which has gone to the bank account of a person named Bhaskar Mandal and two transactions are of 10 lakhs each and the fifth transaction is of 4 lakh 63000 and in this way this bank fraud of total 48 lakh 63000 has happened and along with this he has told me that I have this complete copy right now that How the money was withdrawn from his account and the complete details are mentioned in it.

Along with that, in the complaint filed here, all the five bureaus have been kept here. Information about the account has been provided. Along with that, it has been told in which account the RTGS was done, what is the name of the account and how much amount was transferred there. First of all, it is told at what time this call came and whether it was a missed call or not. How did you get this caller, how did he withdraw money from the account?

These were not missed calls, sir, basically all of them were calls and on Sunday, 13th November, I received a call that I received about 100 calls. All of them were computerized calls and not like mobile numbers, not like that. If we disconnect a call, then the call starts from a new number. So this sequence continued for about one and a half hours and in between, the phone which we had put on flight mode, it would get disconnected.

But we saw in between that, we put our phone on flight mode for some time, then the messages that we got in it were of two debit transactions of 12 lakhs each, two transactions of 10 lakhs and one transaction of 463000. For that, I immediately contacted the manager of Bank of Baroda, where our account is, I have the number, so I talked to the manager, the manager guided me to call on 1930, so date your amount, did any OTP come to you there?

When this call was being made , no other TP was taken from us, nor did any OTP come to him. We have only received SMS of debit of the transaction. Well, when this call was coming, was anyone talking to you in that call, sharing any number or OTP and talking about something like this?

No, no one from there, that means there was no voice coming from the other side. We were saying hello hello, one or two people picked up the call but there was no response, so we did not pick up the rest of the calls. After one call, we did not pick up any call. It is happening continuously on your call. I told you, as soon as we disconnect a number, then again a new number appears on the display. So in this way, 1995 plus numbers continued.

I counted about 100 calls in the mobile, that means neither did they click on any link nor did OTP come. Now you must be thinking that how did the bank fraud happen without OTP. In this case, the police suspect that to carry out this fraud, cyber criminals have done SIM swap, but you should also know what is this SIM swap . For SIM swap, first of all, cyber criminals get the details of someone's SIM and then they Fake SIM cards are made by cloning the SIM card through details.

After that, the hacker activates the SIM card of your phone number in his name and once the SIM card is activated, the cyber thug has control over your phone and this is also another way of SIM swapping which is used by scammers. Scammers contact the mobile operator on the pretext of SIM or facility and get a new SIM card of the same number . Once the new SIM card is activated, the hacker gets the SIM card in his name and the operator gets the new SIM card.

After this, they gain control over the victim's mobile number and then all the victim's OTP numbers and SMS start coming on the swapped SIM. In this way, hackers transfer money from the victim's account to their own account. OTP can be obtained through SIM swap through mobile number. Then all the money is withdrawn from your bank account and this is what must have happened in the cyber robbery case of more than 48 lakhs in Delhi.

Cyber experts also express the possibility of this. When you go to cyber crime patrol areas on TV or any person walking on the road asks for your phone and says that he has an emergency and he has to make a call in the emergency, then many times we give our phone to them unintentionally. In this process, many times if your eyes are not focused on your phone, then during that time he somehow turns on the call forwarding option on your phone,

So all the calls that come on your number are automatically forwarded to his number . Now what happens with this is that whatever call you make, it automatically gets forwarded to his number. OTPs are generated in two ways, one is through your SMS which generates OTP and the other is through call. If you do not get OTP through SMS, then there is an option to get OTP through call . What does a criminal do? Which OTP does he generate?

You do not get any OTP, yet he gets the OTP through call. He uses your OTP and empties your account. Cyber frauds have increased as fast as digital transactions have increased in the country and today in Lok Sabha, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs has given information and said that in the three years from January 1, 2020 till now, more than 16 lakh cases of cyber crime have come to light and 32000 cases have been registered.

The government has claimed that in these three years, success has been achieved in stopping more than 180 crore cyber fraud transactions. The OTP rule came to stop cyber fraud and now cyber criminals have found a way to break the OTP through SIM swapping. The government is also aware of this. Just last month, a new SIM card rule was introduced by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India and under the new rule, all telecom companies have been instructed to keep the incoming and outgoing SMS facility closed for 24 hours after the activation of the new SIM.

After receiving the request to change the SIM card or number, the telecom operator will have to send a notification to the customer. Apart from this, the SIM card holder will have to confirm the change of SIM card or number through an IVRS call. This new SIM card rule has been introduced to stop bank frauds through SIM cards, but cyber frauds will not be stopped just by making rules, for this people will also have to be aware and alert because cyber criminals target such people who are careless about their financial transactions and this is the truth
